Tips on applying for grants

  • Ensure that the grant is still available, as many are time limited.
  • Check the deadline for the grant application.
  • It may help to contact the funding organisation before applying for the grant to get advice on whether your application may be successful and the level of detail needed in your submission.
  • Check the maximum and minimum sums that can be allocated.
  • Check the percentage cost of the project that you may have to pay yourself and add details of how you will raise your financial contribution to the project. Do remember that volunteer time can sometimes count as part of your financial contribution.
  • Check that the grant covers your type of project and geographical area.
  • Be clear in your application that you meet all the necessary criteria.
  • Make sure that you give adequate details about your project, such as other sources of support, budgets, consultation etc.
