Premises licence - variations and minor variations

There may be a reason why you wish to vary a premises licence, such as to include further licensable activities or alter existing activities and operating times allowed by the premises licence.

How to apply

Before applying, read the guidance notes for details of how to apply, the eligibility criteria, fees and the documentation you will need to provide. This information can be found in the variation of premises application pack.

What happens next

The application should be advertised for a period of 28 days at the premises and a copy should also be advertised in the public notices section of the local newspaper.

After the 28 day consultation period has expired, if no representations have been received from responsible authorities or interested parties, then the licence is granted as applied for.  We will issue the licence shortly after.

If we receive a representation from a responsible authority or interested party then the application may need to be considered by the licensing sub committee. A hearing will be arranged within 20 working days after the end of the representation period.

Failure to comply with any conditions attached to a premises licence may result in an unlimited fine and/or six months imprisonment.

Minor variations

This process can only be used where the variations will not adversely impact on the promotion of any of the four licensing objectives (prevention of crime and disorder, public safety, prevention of public nuisance, protection of children from harm e.g. structural changes, extending hours of entertainment)

The application can not be used to make any changes associated with the sale of alcohol.

How to apply

Before applying, read the guidance notes for details of how to apply, the eligibility criteria, fees and the documentation you will need to provide. This information can be found in the minor variation application pack.

Fee

The fee for a premises licence minor variation is £89.

What happens next

If the 10 working day consultation period has expired and no representations have been made by a responsible authority or interested party, then the minor variation will be approved.

If we receive representations, we have a further five working days to consider them and decide whether to approve or reject the application.

If the minor variation is approved, we will issue a new licence to reflect the minor variation. If we reject the application, the fee will be refunded and you will be given the option to apply for a full variation.

Failure to comply with any conditions attached to a premises licence may result in an unlimited fine and/or six months imprisonment.
