Council scraps surcharges on credit card payments
Release date: 17 November 2016
With effect from today, surcharges will no longer be applied to credit card transactions with Cotswold District Council.
Until now transactions using credit cards have carried a 1.75% administration charge to cover processing costs. However, the Leader of the Council, Cllr Lynden Stowe, felt that residents were deterred from using the easiest method to pay bills and has approved the removal of the surcharge.
Commenting on the change, Cllr Stowe says:
“Now that we have removed the surcharge, I trust that more people will be encouraged to use their debit or credit card when dealing with the Council. Our website www.cotswold.gov.uk is geared towards facilitating this method of payment for our wide range of services, and also enables users to do business with us at any hour of the day or night. This online route is the fastest – and cheapest – method for us to collect payments so the waiving of the surcharge should be a win-win for all parties.”
The Council’s website is secure so users can be assured that their payment details will be transmitted and stored securely and confidentially. The information that the Council receives electronically will only be used for the purpose intended by the sender.
