Removal of cardboard recycling bank at car park

Release date: 25 May 2016

Following consultations with local ward councillors, Cotswold District Council  has authorised the removal of the cardboard recycling bank at the Old Station Car Park in Cirencester and the work is scheduled to be undertaken on Wednesday 25 May.

Councillor Sue Coakley, Cabinet Member for the Environment at CDC, explains:

"There were strong indications that the bank was being used primarily for trade cardboard waste rather than domestic waste. The Council does not collect waste or recyclables for businesses so taxpayers were picking up the tab unnecessarily.  Additionally, Ubico street cleansing crews have had to deal with a lot of fly tipping of cardboard at this site which has created problems for car park users, as well as adding to the costs of the service.”
