Revellers urged to check their taxi cab before boarding

Release date: 17 December 2018

With the Christmas party season in full swing, residents across the Cotswolds are being warned to check that the taxis they hire are safe and legal.

Customers are being urged to look out for the Council’s licence plate on the back of the vehicle and to check the driver’s identity badge before boarding.

Cllr Mark MacKenzie-Charrington, Cotswold District Council Cabinet Member for Licensing, says,

“We want to ensure that people are not risking their lives by using unlicensed vehicles because they may appear to be cheaper.

“Drivers of these vehicles have not undergone the police checks and regular medicals that are necessary under the Council’s licensing rules. The vehicles are not insured to carry passengers and have not been through our required stringent mechanical checks.”

Under the licensing regulations, vehicles are checked thoroughly every six months and are also subjected to interim spot checks.
