Walking

There are over 3,000 miles of public footpaths in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), the largest such region in the country. Walking is one of the best ways to appreciate and enjoy the distinctive character of the Cotswolds.

Long distance trails

The following long distance footpaths and short trails take in the rolling hills, river valleys and the scattered stone villages for which the area is so well known:

The Cotswold Way:
One of the great long distance trails in Britain running over 100 miles from Chipping Campden to Bath.

The Oxfordshire Way:
65 mile route passes through the Oxfordshire Cotswolds from Bourton-on-the-Water to Henley-on-Thames.

The Gloucestershire Way:
100 mile route runs from Chepstow to Tewkesbury.

The North Cotswold Diamond Way:
60 mile diamond-shaped route centres on Stow-on-the-Wold in the North Cotswolds.

The Wardens’ Way and Windrush Way:
These two trails are 13 and 14 miles respectively.

The Macmillan Way:
290 mile long distance path and its half-way point is in the heart of the Cotswolds!

The Monarchs Way:
Long route of 610 miles, the route that Charles II took during his escape after the battle of Worcester 1651.

The Wysis Way
A 55 mile long footpath through Gloucestershire.
