Towards a Vision for Cirencester

Do you want to be involved in helping to shape Cirencester’s future?

A number of proposals and plans are being developed by the District Council, and other organisations that will each, in their own way, change the look, feel and shape of Cirencester Town Centre.  Many of these initiatives have been with us for a number of years; some are new, and others are old ideas that deserve to be dusted off and looked at afresh.

Cotswold District Council will work with the community and other bodies to bring these projects together into a single vision by December 2007.  We will be working with people of all ages, interest groups, businesses, landowners and developers and other arms of local government.

We want to work with the community to create a shared vision where

  • All projects lead to same goals
  • Work is shared
  • Strategies are joined and complementary
  • We work together to obtain funding.

These are a few events that have been happening over the past few months:

November 2006 we held a Developer’s Forum to launch the project.

March 2007 we held a public consultation event at the Town Council.

During April officers of Cotswold District Council visited three primary schools in Cirencester – Chesterton and Watermoor Primary Schools and Cirencester Junior School, to talk to the children about what they wanted to see in Cirencester.  We held a drawing competition and below you are able to see the children’s drawings.  A prize giving will be held at the Council Offices in June.

May 2007 we are holding a Members’ event at the Council offices.

We have also had press coverage in the Standard.

If you want to add anything to the Vision you can contact us by e-mail at vision@cotswold.gov.uk .
