Household recycling centres

The Household Recycling Centres are managed by May Gurney on behalf of Gloucestershire County Council where householders may take waste free of charge for recycling or disposal.

The two sites in the Cotswold District are:

Fosse Cross (GL54 4NW):

Six miles North of Cirencester on the A429.   Turn towards Calmsden by the Hare and Hounds public house.

Pyke Quarry (GL6 0QA):

Two miles West of Horsley on the B4058 Wotton under Edge road.

For residents living in the North of the Cotswold district, Gloucestershire County Council has a formal agreement with Warwickshire County Council that residents can use the household recycling centre at Shipston on Stour.

New opening hours of Gloucestershire's Household Recycling Centres came into effect on the 28th March 2010:

  • 9:00am to 6:15pm All year round
  • Open every day except Christmas Day and New Year's Day

Appointment booking scheme

A new scheme is in operation at Gloucestershire's five Household Recycling Centres from 26th October, 2008, for specific vehicles, including vans, pick-up trucks and vehicles towing a trailer or horsebox.

This is to prevent trade waste from being illegally dumped at the centres, which are for household waste only.

As well as reducing costs for taxpayers, the scheme makes it easier for householders at the sites by reducing traffic, particularly at weekends when the centres are at their busiest.

To book an appointment using the new scheme, telephone 0845 602 9344.

For more information contact the Household Recycling Centre helpline on 01242 680010.

Hazardous and difficult wastes

An area is provided at the Household Recycling Centres for the safe disposal of small quantities of household chemicals such as weedkillers, pesticides, solvents and paint.

Arrangements can be made for the disposal of small amounts of asbestos, please contact the Household Recycling Centre helpline on (01242) 680 010.

There is a limit to the size of material which can be accepted and the helpline will give details of this.

Under no circumstances should you attempt to break up any asbestos material. It may be necessary to use a private contractor to assist with the removal or disposal of asbestos.

Old tyres should be taken to a garage or tyre and exhaust centre for disposal. Gas cylinders should be returned to the supplier where possible. Otherwise, the following companies run a collection scheme for unidentified cylinders:

  • Brooksight Ltd: (01204) 695 282
  • Synergy Asset Services Ltd: (01304) 827 277
  • Flogas: 0845 601 5176
  • BOC: 0800 111 333
