About Human Resources

We recognize that the only way we can deliver what we have promised to the district we serve is by having staff of the highest calibre. This means we understand the value of enthusiastic, highly skilled and well-motivated staff who are able to respond to the changing needs of the community.

We also know that, like any organisation providing services to the public, our staff are vitally important to our success. We encourage a productive and positive environment in which people can contribute and enhance their skills.

Our staff are trained and developed on both professional and personal levels. We encourage people to undertake development opportunities to enhance not only their occupational knowledge and skills but also the wider benefits of lifelong learning.

Staff are treated fairly and with respect and they, in turn, are expected to contribute to the Council's commitment to recognizing and encouraging diversity in its workforce.

In Personnel & Development, we:

  • Develop and implement policies covering human resource issues
  • Provide specialist, confidential support and advice to managers and staff
  • Co-ordinate recruitment and retention of high quality employees appropriate to the requirements of the job
  • Identify and support individual and corporate training, development and lifelong learning needs for staff and Council Members
  • Promote a safe and healthy working environment

We would appreciate your feedback about our Personnel & Development web pages. Please contact us on our Report It page  if you have any comments or if there is any useful information you would like us to include.
