Active Lifestyles

Active Lifestyles is Cotswold District Council’s physical activity referral scheme. It is a 12 week exercise programme designed to introduce and encourage people who do little or no physical activity to become more active in their daily lives.

Active Lifestyles is an ideal opportunity for those who want to become more active but are not sure how, or when to do so.  It’s never too late to start a programme of physical activity;  participants aged from 16 to 92 years have already benefited from taking part in Active Lifestyles.

  • Ask your GP, practice nurse or physiotherapist about Active Lifestyles exercise referral.

If you are eligible for the scheme then:

  • Arrange an appointment with the Active Lifestyles Adviser at your leisure centre.
  • Take part in an informal health and fitness assessment.
  • The Active Lifestyles Adviser will provide you with a personalised exercise programme based on your health and fitness goals.

Joining the scheme will provide you with  12 weeks of encouragement, support and monitoring by your Active Lifestyles Adviser.

You will have the opportunity to try a wide range of activities including the gym, classes and swimming.

All Active Lifestyle Advisers have a GP Referral qualification.

To take a look at the local leisure centres involved click on the Cotswold Leisure link below.

For more information, please contact the Physical Activity Officer (link below).

There are also weekly exercise classes at:

  • Lechlade New Memorial Hall, Monday's 2.30pm - 3.25pm
  • Fairford Community Centre, Wednesday's 9.30am - 10.30am

Small groups of 8 – 10 people  enjoy light, social exercise with an Active Lifestyles Adviser. All exercises undertaken are able to be recreated at home enabling participants to be active throughout the week.

If you haven’t exercised for a long time, or feel that a gentle programme of physical activity would benefit your health, ask at your local Cotswold GP surgery for more details. Alternatively call the Health Development Officer

For more information or to book a place, please contact the Physical Activity Officer (link below).
