Farewell Plastic Bottle Banks!
Commenting on the decision, Cabinet member for the Enivronment, Cllr David Fowles, said:
“Residents have welcomed the introduction of fortnightly kerbside plastic collections and have been very keen to use this service since its introduction. This has meant that the amount of plastic bottles deposited in recycling banks has declined drastically, and, as planned, we no longer feel that we can justify spending £100,000 of taxpayers money each year to provide them. However, we will still continue to provide a range of recycling banks for items such as paper, cans, glass, cardboard and textiles.
“We will be promoting a ‘Farewell Plastic Bottle Banks!’ poster campaign around the district to alert residents to the withdrawal of the plastic bottle recycling banks at the end of January, and explain why we are making this considerable saving. We believe that most people will appreciate why we’re doing this.”
