PARKING OFFICERS WIN THE HEARTS OF THE HOUSEBOUND
As they continue to struggle through the ice and snow, Parking Enforcement Officers in Cirencester have been combining their duties with unselfish acts of kindness to help those most at risk.
The recent adverse weather has shown the Cotswold District Council’s Parking Enforcement Officers in a different light. As they made their rounds last week in the streets of Cirencester, they quickly became aware that local charities and support organisations were struggling to cope with their workload.
This prompted the team to offer their services to the Cotswolds Centre for Voluntary Services. The officers arranged to drop off vital groceries to homes around Cirencester as they patrolled between car parks, freeing up CCVS volunteers to provide their Dial a Ride service to other towns and villages around the Cotswolds.
Maria Wheatley, parking manager at Cotswold District Council has been pleased by the upbeat public reaction to this temporary measure and commented:
"It's great to see the Parking Enforcement Officers doing their bit. We hear lots of horror stories about the snow and ice, so it's refreshing to hear some good news as well, and I’ve been touched by the messages of thanks that we have received.
"I'm really pleased that our officers were able to assist some of those who are most vulnerable at this time of year - they did this with a smile on their faces and, truth told, they are slightly embarrassed about the publicity they have generated. I am very proud of them all."
